Thirsty Thursday at Walt Disney World

When you are at Disney you are always thirsty. 
So here are a few of our favorite drinks at Disney.

Blueberry Lemonade — one of the Boathouse Specialties — is a mix of blueberry vodka, lemon vodka, house-made lemonade, and fresh blueberries.

Starbucks- Mocha Frappucino

Strawberry Aqua Fresca- Via Napoli Italy in Epcot

Mexican Sangria- Mexico Pavillion in Epcot- All the fruitiness you love in a red wine sangria laced with orange liquor, with Tequila

Gran Marnier and Grey Goose Slushie- at the kiosk outside the France Pavillion at EPCOT. It's like an orange dreamsicle in a cup!

The San Pelligrino Sparkling Blood Orange Juice isn't on the menu at the kiosk in the Italy Pavilion, but they keep it on hand for mixing. Just ask for it and they'll sell you the can- you won't be sorry! 

The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland is just below the People Mover and a great place to get a frozen Coke! 

The Kakigori from the kiosk in the Japan Pavillion is a delicious treat! I recommend the tangerine flavor- and the sweet milk topping is worth the extra $1!

The Disney Starbucks Digital Chalkboard

Had to share a bit of fun we experienced on our stop at the Downtown Disney Starbucks in Disneyland.  We stopped in and saw a huge (70 inch) digital display board on the wall.  The display board uses built-in cameras to create chalk sketches of the guests and their surroundings.  They automatically render whatever is in front so if you are standing there with coffee in hand, checking your "line app", then a chalkboard outline of you will be on the wall.  You can also draw on the screen with your fingers, which my little ones found fascinating.  What I loved was the ability to view the Orlando Downtown Disney location in live chalk sketches.  So next time you are in Starbucks in Downtown Disney, say hello to your fellow coffee lovers on the other coast!

Starbucks Epcot Mug To Be Pulled From Shelves

Starbucks and Disney just released exclusive designs called the "You Are Here" mugs, that featured the 4 different parks. Walt Disney World has announced it  is pulling its the new Starbucks coffee mugs that feature Epcot. 




























The Epcot mug design, which also shows Spaceship Earth, The Land pavilion and several World Showcase landmarks, uses only shades of blue, gray and purple, including a purple stripe on the monorail. The problem is Disney's Monorail Purple was involved in a deadly 2009 crash in which Monorail Pink backed into the purple train, killing its pilot. Following the crash. Walt Disney World retired the pink and purple monorail and replaced with teal and peach. They also put in new safety procedures and improvements on the monorail lines.

Disney confirmed it was pulling the mug from sales for that reason. There is no word yet on when new Epcot mugs will be released or the color scheme.

5 Things I Leared While Attending the Rock Your Disney Side Event

1.     Don't assume you're the only Disney fanatic.  Leave your resort earlier than an hour before park opening.  Many other fanatics want to see the opening of the Magic Kingdom for the 24 hour event.  Who knew there were so many Disney crazies?

2.     Make sure you plan at least one table service meal during your 24 hours of magic.  In fact, I would plan two if I were to do this again in the future.  The lunch we had at Tony's Town Square Restaurant was probably the smartest thing we did during the 24 hour event.

My fellow partners in crime, Jay and Muggsie, enjoying our delicious and relaxing lunch while we soaked in the cool air and had many hydrating drinks. 

3.   Don't hold off getting your Starbucks recharging coffee until 11:00 p.m.  Apparently, this is the time that all theme park guests become tired and need a jolt of caffeine.  Between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. the line for Starbucks busted out of the front door and down main street-nearly to the Main Street Confectioner's Shop.  Although, several hours later I was able to enjoy my beverage and a delicious cupcake! 

 

4.      No matter how adorable you think you'll look, don't change into your flannel pajamas at sunset.  It's Florida.  It's hot.  Yes, I did it.  I thought it might cool down once the sun set. Yes, as a Midwesterner I always underestimate the heat of Florida.  The end of May in Florida is too hot for flannel even if the sun is setting.  Lesson learned.

  5.     Take a break.  While I can now say I was in the Magic Kingdom for 24 hours straight, I honestly cannot remember a few hours of the early morning.  Had I stopped and taken a midday break I probably would have had more stamina and enjoyed the early morning hours more.

     Yes, I learned several lessons during the Rock Your Disney Side 24 hour event in the Magic Kingdom.  Most importantly, I learned that I am a Disneyphile through and through.  I look forward to doing an event like this again in the future.
