A Quiet Corner: Main Street USA, Magic Kingdom

While there's no doubt Walt Disney World has no shortage on fun and excitement, there are also some great places to kick back and relax. One of my favorite spots is in the Magic Kingdom. Just off Main Street, located in the alley between the Uptown Jewelers and the Crystal Arts shops.  This is a great little alcove that provides a place to have a rest, enjoy a Mickey ice cream bar, make a quick phone call, or to just sit and appreciate all the wonderful detail that Disney puts into "the story". What I mean by that is; every aspect of Disney parks, cruise line, Adventures by Disney and so on, is meant to add to the story the Imagineers at Disney are trying to tell. I absolutely LOVE that even here in an out of the way little corner of the Magic Kingdom, there's a story being told.

But this area isn't just part of the story, it also provides a function. It gives cast members quick access from the backstage areas, where they can blend right into the happenings on Main Street. While relaxing in this little alcove, we were treated to one of the happiest symbols from Main Street, making their way out.

There's also a more practical and somewhat rare aspect of this alcove-pay phones! As I said before, it's a good, quiet place to make a phone call if your phone has died and you need to get in touch with a friend or family member in the parks.

Last but not least, a little bit of magic. If you stand below the brick building and listen to the sounds coming from the windows that advertise "Voice and Singing Lessons", and "Music and Dance Lessons", you will hear some students having their piano and tap dancing lessons. It's the little touches that really set Disney apart.

The next time you are in the Magic Kingdom, take a moment to appreciate this quiet corner just off Main Street. I myself, like to imagine this is one of the places you would have found Walt enjoying the park, if he were still here with us.
